In this scene, Queen Gertrude tells King Claudius of Hamlet’s killing Polonius. The King puts this down to Hamlet being mad – but he is also not happy about the revelations of the play within the play. He sends Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to find Hamlet (and Polonius’ body) and when they’re gone agrees with the Queen to use this event to displace any negative publicity that might come their way.
